Almost 400,000 people suffer from sudden cardiac arrest each year.

Project Heart Start (PHS) is dedicated to saving lives by teaching life-saving skills. Participants learn to recognize signs of a heart attack, to perform high quality CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and to save a victim of choking. The program has taught more then 50,000 people these life saving skills.

In January 2016, the Foundation wrote and the Governor signed a bill making the Project Heart Start components be a requirement for graduation from all of New Mexico’s Public schools.
